FEBRUARY 2024
DINNER MEETING
ANNOUNCEMENT

We hope you will join us for the second AEG Southern California meeting of 2024. The meeting will be on Tuesday, February 20th at Victorio's Ristorante in North Hollywood. This is an exciting opportunity to hear from the National President of AEG!

State of the Association: The discussion will start with an update on AEG, and review membership numbers, demographics, financial summary, volnteer opportunities, scholarships, and information about the 2024 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. Bring questions about AEG's operations on an Association level and how your Chapter fits into the Association's Strategic Plan, as well as what you can do to help AEG.

Technical Talk: The speaker will be the National AEG President and Principal Geologist of DiabloGeo Environmental Consulting, Sarah Kalika, PG, CAC, CDPH Lead I/A/S. The talk focuses on the challenges and opportunities for environmental and engineering geologists in professional practice.

Although the number of engineering geology-specific programs are reducing in the U.S., geoscience undergraduate enrollment is increasing. Furthermore, less geoscience students are enrolling in graduate-level education, but that may be due to an increase in jobs with a bachelor's degree education. Job opportunities are also on the rise - it is estimated that the retiring workforce will open 16,000+ full time jobs by 2029.

Sarah will discuss important aspects of keeping geoscience educational programs, requirements towards licensure, the observation that states that require licensure often have more geologists, and explore non-traditional programs to educate field staff. Sarah will discuss the importance of geologic careers to students, parents, and all professionals. Let's boost the next generation of geologists!
