Abstract
Haiwee Reservoir is located in southern Owens Valley and represents a key component of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power's (LADWP's) Los Angeles aqueduct system. North Haiwee Dam is seismically unstable due to the potential for liquefaction of the underlying alluvium and embankment during strong seismic shaking. Consequently, the LADWP is planning to construct a new dam (North Haiwee Dam No. 2 [NHD2]) approximately 800 feet north of the existing dam. Chris' presentation will present the methods and findings of a comprehensive investigation of local faulting to provide a deterministic assessment of the potential for surface fault rupture under or adjacent to the planned NHD2.
